This is an adaptation of an earlier painting of mine, called Nature Stirs (please see the post below). The figure's forehead, and the landscape from that painting, are incorporated here. The balloons are springing up from the girl's imagination, and are used to feature some of my earlier work.

This entry is called Nature Stirs. The painting was done in oil, and digitally as well. It refers to the stirring of Mother Nature, and some of her milder manifestations - clouds and dust. It also is a reference to the psychological stirring of adolescent emotions, which can be heightened or lessened by exposure to nature.

This is my posting for the Illustration Friday Layers theme. This painting portrays Sufism; a mystical sect of Islam otherwise known as the Whirling Dervishes. They are influenced by other religions as well, including Buddhism.
Their ceremonial dance (and trance) is meant to represent a mystical journey through the layers of the mind and love, to the "Perfect". I have also designed the painting as a physically layered image.
