This is my entry for the Illustration Friday theme, Teacher. Hypatia of Alexandria was a Greek mathematician & philosopher in Roman Egypt. Around 400 AD she became head of the famed Platonist school; where she taught mathematics, philosophy, & astronomy. She was also the last librarian of the Library of Alexandria (considered the largest & most significant library of the ancient world). Both she, & the library fell victim to the violence & upheaval of that time. She is played by Rachel Weisz, in the 2009 film, "Agora". In 415 AD she was denounced as a witch, then subjected to a gruesome death at the hands of an angry mob. She later came to be seen as a secular "patron saint" of science & libraries. In this image she is holding two planispheric astrolabes (an astronomy tool of the ancient world). Scientific advances of the Renaissance, & Enlightenment were built on the re-discovered knowledge of the Classical world.

This is my entry for the Illustration Friday theme, Bounce. The subject is bounce, and the dictionary definition says that it comes from a word meaning thump. It also means to spring forward, or leap. There is a rabbit in the movie Bambi, called Thumper. There are two rabbits in my image, and the one at the top is bounding off the page. The Faberge eggs are loosely connected to the Easter bunny.

This is my entry for the Illustration Friday theme, Lonely. Being a member of the paparazzi (the lonely hunters) can take its toll on you. Lonely, anxiety-filled stakeouts; leaving you feeling like any moment you'll get caught! It's especially hard for the newbies.
